Microsoft launched xBox 360 in India

On 23rd Microsoft made India the 31st country where xBox has been launched. So they may be late but I feel that they have got it at the right time. Its priced at Rs.19990 for the core and Rs.23990 for the complete package. I feel its damn expensive but I also know people who will still buy it at that price. Well MS claim that they have already sooked and sold 175 pieces so far which is great. I want to meet those 175 idiots please :-)
They have also announced the launch of Yuvraj Singh Cricket 2007 which is being developed by Codemasters. I feel that it will only be a skin chnage of Brain Lara cricket and nothing different as such. Anyways they have signed up Yuvraj Singh & Akshay Kumar as their brand ambassadors which again I doubt is the rigth choice. I heard they plan to spend 50 crores in advertising bit seriously speaking, even a game freak like me is not even excited about its launch. With that kind of money in hand, MS should make people like me to atleast check it once.

An Indian Girl wins US$ 1 Million in a casual games tournament

In Los Angeles on Sept. 9, 2006, FUN Technologies presents one million dollar check to first-ever WorldWide Web Games Champion Kavitha Yalavarthi, accompanied by her fiance Vishal Shah. (CCNMatthews Photo/FUN Technologies Inc.) Girl of an Indian origin Kavitha Yalavarthi Outplays 70 of the World's Best Casual Game Players at the Inaugural Competition in Hollywood on September 9th

After an intense 12-hour competition, Kavitha Yalavarthi of Odessa, TX emerged the champion of FUN Technologies first-ever WorldWide Web Games (W3Games) and winner of the million-dollar grand prize. Yalavarthi outlasted 70 of the world's top casual gamers, who made the trip to Hollywood for a chance to be named the "World's Best Casual Gamer."

The head-to-head event, hosted by Todd Newton, and produced by Base Camp Films, took place yesterday and will air on GSN on December 3, 2006. The competition consisted of six rounds of strategic game play in three of the most popular casual games, Bejeweled 2, Solitaire and Zuma. Gaining top rankings early on, Yalavarthi established herself as the competitor to beat.

Yalavarthi, an aspiring law student and honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, got her start playing casual games by challenging her mother to friendly competitions online. She plans to use her winnings to purchase her first home with her new fiance, who accompanied her to the competition.

Shortly after winning the million-dollar prize, Yalavarthi woke her parents with a late-night call to break the news. "Mom, Dad, you know those casual games that I play online?" Yalavarthi asked. "Well, they're not so casual anymore. I just won the $1 million grand prize."

Each participant in the W3Games qualified by playing online tournaments at FUN Technologies' casual games sites, WorldWinner and SkillJam, or at any of FUN's partner sites including GSN.com, MSN Games and Real Networks. The 71 contestants, ranging in age from 20 to 63, represented six countries and 22 U.S. states.

"Yesterday's competition elevated skill games to a new level," said Lorne Abony, CEO, FUN Technologies. "For the first time, online casual gamers faced off in a live event that culminated with the largest prize ever awarded in a skill games championship."

Yavarthi won by the narrowest of margins, defeating Amy Demerath of Green Bay, Wis. Speaking of her future plans, Yavarthi commented, "I just got engaged two weeks ago. I have no idea what I'm going to do next. Life is unbelievable. Life is good."

I have completed 2 missions and killed over 30 notorious characters ;-) Unfortunately I am not able to devote more than 30 mins in a day to play this game which is resulting in my slow progress. Hope to spend lot of time this weekend because I will be all alone at home doing nothing else.... let see. I will keep you guys posted.
By the way, I am also hooked on Rocket Mania these days and I am pretty good at it. I already have a high score of over 5 lakhs and its still in progress. What else you can expect from a serious casual gamer. :-)

I am finally playing a MMOG - City of Heroes

Thanks to my friends who otherwise never contribute on this blog but gave me a copy of City of Heroes to play. It had 1 month of free play so I am making the most of it. This game looks very good to me unlike all other boring & ancient looking sagas my friends keep playing. Though I am still in tutorial mode but very soon I will be saving people around in Paragon City.

Jaipur making online games for the West

With the software industry rapidly gaining ground here, many engineers are creating online games for countries such as the United States, Britain, France and Italy, contributing their expertise to virtual entertainment.

After New Delhi and Gurgaon, Jaipur - so far known more as a tourist destination - has become the next hub in northern India for online games. The games are just like online chatting where one can play the games without knowing the competitor - who may be from any part of the world.

Several of Jaipur's IT companies have started evincing interest in preparing these games. Software industry is growing in Jaipur. There are several ISO certified companies who have been preparing them for their foreign developers..

Many software engineers have also stepped into preparing mobile games. The new trend is attributed to the burgeoning use of Internet and mobile phone. Normally it takes about 8 to 10 months to complete one game like the popular 'Punch Ball' and 'Age of Empires'.

These online games are played on the Internet and each player is connected through networking. Most companies are trying their hands on games like 'Punch Ball' and 'Age of Empires', which are much sought after games abroad.

''Hello Quake' and 'Unreal Tournament' are the city's other gifts to keep the cyber players engaged. Many of the locally prepared mobile games like 'Fighter', 'Jazz', 'Tennis Snake', Cricket' and 'Super Real Tennis' are also finding a good response in the foreign market.

Mobile games have a very good market. Internet games need Internet access but mobiles are handier and one can use it any time. These games have the largest access as they are played by all age groups.

Superior technical features seen in these games entice the game buffs towards them. Fantastic light and sound effects and free flow of imagination are other qualities that appeal to the users.
